Awkward Silence is Your Friend!
My husband HATES car shopping with me.
Which is strange, because I tend to negotiate great deals for him.
It's because I just ask for what I want and then sit there in awkward silence while they ponder and talk amongst themselves, having an internal debate. Works every time.
Silence is amazing. It's the secret tool you never knew you needed. It is the best way to:
👉 Let customers think and give them the space to share
👉 Give off the non-pushy vibe. It's hard to seem pushy if you're letting someone else do the talking.
👉 Get information out of people/get what you want
Some people think the best negotiators are good arguers and convincers. Really they're just good at awkward silence.
Make a conscious effort to put more silence into your day, and especially your customer conversations. It'll pay off.
PS...isn't the word awkward even spelled awkwardly?!?! Or is it just me?
