#1 Reason Your Cold Calls Aren’t Working

The best salespeople don't beat around the bush and don't waste a bunch of words.

I have spent hundreds of hours interviewing customers and gathering research, and the data I found is very clear.

For a prospect call you want to avoid this:
❌ Hi, I want to reach out because we're the top provider of solutions and we're having a promotion in August that I think you'll really benefit from and others in your industry have really benefited from our services...blah....blah...blah

This is much better:
✅ Hi, I'm calling to introduce myself. I'm Katie Mullen from _______. (now stop talking for a second and let them process)

For a customer who requested a proposal and hasn't called back, you want to avoid this:
❌ Hi, I wanted to follow up on the proposal I sent. That promotion is going to be going away in September, and I'd really like for you to be able to take advantage. As you're discussing internally, I want to remind you that we have the best products in the industry and our service is best in class....blah...blah...blah

Instead, try this:
✅ Hi, I wanted to get an update on that proposal I sent since it's been a few weeks and I haven't heard anything. Is that project still on your radar at all?

You would be surprised how few sales reps handle calls and emails this way.

Always be polite, but be honest and to the point. Customers tell me they MUCH prefer it this way. They want us to introduce ourselves, plain and simple.

Agree or disagree?
