Why Sales Is All About Strategy!
When I asked customers about their experiences getting "cold-called", I was a little shocked about some of their answers.
These are a few things that surprised me:
👉 How often they hear, "I can save you money," and as a result, they HATE hearing this line.
👉 How often sales people are downright rude to them
👉 How willing they are to actually listen, as long as salespeople are respectful and polite
All this data I have gathered (and lots more) about what customers ACTUALLY think really did change my approach.
And that's why, when I was told one time, "You know, sales isn't rocket science. I'm sure I'll be able to figure it out," I just smiled.
I knew that this person had NO idea what they were getting themselves into.
It's one of the only professions where a success rate of 10% is pretty good.
Where failure is ok, as long as you try again and again.
Sales, and particularly finding new customers and breaking into competitive accounts (aka cold-calling) may NOT be rocket science, but there IS skill involved.
It IS something we should research and practice. We can't just expect to pick up the phone without any experience or education, and be an instant success.
Beginner's luck usually doesn't apply to sales.
Take some time to learn and hone your craft. Your customers will thank you.
