Micromanagement doesn't work.
Boss: Why didn't you bring in that $500K deal you promised last month?
Employee: Because the purchasing guy was out of town. It came in yesterday, so now we started this month way ahead.
Boss: Maybe, but we missed our monthly target. You should've found someone to process the PO for you.
Employee: But that would've ruined my relationship with them. We still got the PO.
Boss: We need to meet our monthly targets. That's the most important thing to management.
Employee: Okay, boss. (Employee secretly decides it's probably time to start searching for a new job.)
Micromanagement doesn't work. Pressuring customers doesn't work.
Common sense > projection perfection.
